The 2006 census asked people if they were of Traveller background. In Tuam Co Galway – 7.81% of the town answered Yes – the highest percentage in Ireland. Ballyhaunis in Co. Mayo has the largest percntage of Asian born residents – based on census 2006 figures. Asian born make up 9.9% of the population of Ballyhaunis, Nearby Ballaghaderreen has the next highest at 7.42%.
Rathnew in Wicklow – has the highest percentage of Local Authority rented housing in Ireland. 19.31% of the hosuing units in the town of Rathnew were recorded as Local Authority rentals in the 2006 census. (123 homes out of 637 in total). Longford Town was just in second place with 19.3% Council Housing.
