Tesco Locations in Ireland

Tesco Ireland are growing all the time – and their online shopping coverage is almost nationwide – with about 85% of the population able to shop online at Tesco.
All the main cities and towns are covered as well as many smaller villages and rural areas. It is surprising how far the Tesco delivery vans  will go.
If you register  here on the Tesco IE Website you can find out if your address is covered.

After you register – just click on the “Start Shopping” link an dif your address is covered in the delivery area – you will be able to continue shopping.
You can also register at one address and have shopping delivered to another addresses – such as a holiday home or a relatives address.

The online Tesco Store Locator never seems to be working. It seems you have to register with Tesco before it will work .  You Can Register Here

Unfinished Ghost Estates and the Household Charge

We are still waiting for the list of unfinished estates that will be exempt from the 2012 Household Charge.
The total number of estates is expected to be less than 1300. The Irish Independent seems to think it will be less than 300 estates.

It is important to note – that even if your house is in one of the infamous Unfinished Estates – you still need to register for the Household Charge and then claim the exemption. If you don’t register you could be fined.

If you live in a dwelling that is not permanently attached to the ground – i.e a boat or a caravan – you do not need to register it for the household tax.

More details about Household Charge and Exemptions Here

Best Broadband In Galway

Whether you’re new to Galway or currently living in the city looking to change broadband provider the amount of options can certainly be overwhelming. The main companies who are providing fixed line or cable broadband are Vodafone, Eircom, UPC and Magnet. Each offers you something different but which is the best and most reliable?

Vodafone offer upto 8Mb speeds with a data limit of  40Gb for €40 Euro a month. This includes free off peak calls to all landlines in Ireland

Eircom is offering upto  8Mb download speeds with a 10GB limit and offpeak calls  to landlines for  for €46.79 per month  (39.99 for first 6 months)

UPC

Before you order UPC broadband be aware that the prices listed on their website only apply if it is bundled with a TV package, a charge of €7.75 per month will be added if you just want stand-alone broadband. With UPC in Galway fibre broadband is standard and three packages are available. The cheapest UPC broadband is €32.75 a month for 10Mb speeds and a 120GB download limit, in comparison to Eircom’s €29.99 8Mb package this clearly comes out on top despite it being a shade more expensive. UPC also offer 20Mb and 30Mb packages in Galway both of which have no download limit and come in at €41.75 and €49.75 per month respectively. If you order UPC broadband online there is a connection fee of €10 or it’s totally free if you connect yourself.

Magnet

Magnet currently offer 3 broadband packages to Galway residents. The two most suitable are the 8Mb and 24Mb, both of which have no download limits, free routers, free installation and no line sharing. Also, all Magnet broadband packages come bundled with home phone which includes free evening and weekend local and national calls and 100 free mins to 20 international countries including the UK. They come in at €49.99 and €56.99 respectively. Magnet’s 24Mb broadband package may come in at a few euro a month more than UPC’s 20Mb package but I believe the faster speed , no limits and free off-peak national calls make it come out on top.  Visit Magnet Here

Historic Walled Towns of Ireland

The history of Ireland can  be best seen  in its Walled Towns.
There are some of the  walled towns and villages throughout Ireland that are worth a visit.

Ardee, Athenry, Athlone, Bandon,  Cashel, Clonmel, Cork,
Drogheda, Dublin, Fethard, Galway, Kilkenny,
Limerick, New Ross,  Trim, Waterford, Wexford and Youghal.

The Viking raiders of the ninth century and the Anglo-Norman invaders of the twelfth built defensive strongholds that over the centuries came to enrich the fabric of Irish life.

These Irish Walled Towns are unique inheritances from times long past and should be treasured,
