Fingal Unfinished Estates with Household Charge Waivers

This is the list of housing estates in Fingal Council that are classed as unfinished for theh purposes of the Household Charge 2012. Anyone who owns a house on these estates will be granted a waiver in 2012 from the Household Charge. Owners are expected to register for the charge on householdcharge.ie or by post and claim the waiver.

Cleanest and Dirtiest Towns Ireland

Yet another litter survey by  IBAL  . The 2009 results were released today (Jan 4th 2010)  The  litter survey covers 60 towns with  over 6,000 population . Sites are graded by An Taisce according to international standards.

The cleanest town was Bray – whilst the two dirtiest were Limerick and Wicklow.

Litter problems in some Irish Towns

The IBAL 2009 results were published this week – IBAL is the Irish Business Against Litter. Certain towns are checked for litter during the year by An Taisce on behalf of IBAL . All towns in Ireland of over 6,000 inhabitants are now covered by the Anti Litter League . Sixty towns in all were surveyed – the best town (cleanest) was Wexford

Two towns came out as the worst  in the survey this year – they were  Mallow and Athlone – both were classed as Litter Blackspots.

Arklow was the the third worst – classed as Seriously Littered .

Muslims in Ireland

The 2006 census figures show that  Muslims in Ireland make up  0.767% of the population. (32539 out of a total population of 4239848)
A breakdown of religions was carried out on the Irish towns with more than 5000 people.
Of all these towns – Cavan Town  has the highest percentage of Muslims in Ireland – 3.2% of the population of Cavan Town stated they were Muslims.

Edenderry most Early Risers

Edenderry in County Offaly has the highest percentage  of early risers out of all the towns in Ireland with a population of over 5000.
According to Census 2006 figures -  18.84% of workers in Edenderry have to leave their house before 6.30am to go to work. (498  workers out of 2963) The top 10 towns for leaving home before 6.30am are:

Balbriggan has highest percentage of Africans

Africans in Ireland
Of all the towns with a population over 5000 – Balbriggan Co Dublin has the highest concentration of residents of African Ethnic origin. In Balbriggan 5.85% of the population recorded their ethnic origin as African in the 2006 census (890 people).
In all of Ireland there were 39734 people of African origin – that is 0.98% of the total population.
Other towns in Ireland (5000 plus population) where the percentage of Africans is over 3% :Longford 4.1%
Athy 4.02%
Lusk 3.64%
Ennis 3.61%
Dundalk 3.53%
Drogheda 3.25%
Navan 3.18%
Kilkenny 3.05%

According to the census returns there are only 3 Africans in the town of Dungarvan. (It is possible that people did not answer the question) – so this town has the lowest percentage of Africans in Ireland at 0.037.
The percentage of African residents is also low in Roscommon Town (2) , Newcastle West (4) and Tipperary Town (5)
