Disability Figures

9.3% of the population of Ireland stated that they had some type of disability in the 2006 Census.
The town with the highest percentage of people with a disability is Portrane - with 27.4% of the population. The presence of a fairly large hospital in a small town would easily raise the percentages. Portrane has a poulation of 1532 and 420 of those reported some level of disability.

Castlerea 17.5%
Callan 15.3%
Tipperary 14.9%

Most retired in Westport - Mayo

Westport in Mayo is the  favourite location in Ireland  for Retirement.
Westport in County Mayo has the highest percentage of retired residents according to census figures from last year.
19.63% of Westport people are retired. Ireland as a whole has 11.2% of the population classed as retired.
The other towns in Ireland in the top 5 for retired people are Kilrush in Clare , Castlerea Co Roscommon, Ballyshannon in Donegal and Swinford in Co Mayo.
The town with the lowest percentage of retired residents is Kinsealy / Drinan with just 1.4% of the total population in retirement
