The town of Tipperary is behind the rest of Ireland when it comes to Information Technolgy. Census 2006 figures showed that  just 11.4% of Tipperary households had broadband and 71.84% of households had no internet access at all. This is the highest percentage of any town in Ireland  (National average 51.7%)
Also - just 36.35% of households owned a personal computer  compared  to the national average of  53.5%.
The high proportion of rented accommodation might be one of the reasons for these figures.

Immigration in Ireland has grown in the past decade - and the 2006 census provided figures on ethnic origins of residents. Ireland also has it’s own ethnic group - the Travellers and this category was included in the 2006 census for the first time.

The village of Rathkeale in Limerick has the highest percentage of residents who identified themselves as Travellers in the 2006 census. Over a quarter of the village class themselves as travellers - 26.98% . (395 out of 1464).
The town with the next highest percentage of travellers is Bunclody / Carrickduff in Carlow - where 11.17% of residents had traveler ethnic backgrounds (202 out of 1808)Other towns with high proportions of Travellers :

Ballyhaunis in Co. Mayo has the largest percntage of Asian born residents - based on census 2006 figures. Asian born make up 9.9% of the population of Ballyhaunis, Nearby  Ballaghaderreen has the next highest at 7.42%.

Malahide has the highest broadband uptake rate in Ireland.
The percentage of households in Malahide with broadband internet access is the highest of all large towns in Ireland - at 46.34%. Malahide also has the second highest rate of PC ownership - at 78.05% of households owning at least one personal computer. (Portmarnock is top at 80.33%).
Broadband uptake varies enourmously across Ireland - the two main factors influencing uptake would be availability and also economic status.
Portmarnock, Leixlip, Dunboyne, Celbridge, Greystones, Donabate, Skerries, Annacotty, Naas, Ratoath, Rathcoole and Maynooth all have broadband uptake of more than 33% of households.
The uptake figure nationally is 19.98%.
Some towns have a broadband uptake as low as 3.2% (Castlebridge).
Other towns with low broadband uptake are Clogherhead, Ballyjamesduff, Bunclody/Carrickduff, Stamullen , Kilcoole, Ballyhaunis - all with less than 10% of households with a broadband connection.

If Paddy Reilly came back  to Ballyjamesduff he would probably work in manufacturing. Just over 37% of the workforce are employed in manufacturing in the Cavan town  – compared to Irish average of just 11.6%.  Cavan Crystal and Liffey Meats  probably account for many of these jobs.

Ballyhaunis in Mayo is second – with 31.8% working in manufacturing – the Dawn Meats plant probably the main reason for that.

The national average is 11.62% .

Malahide has the lowest proportion of people employed in manufacturing (they are all too busy selling)
